Culture different between China and United states

In this task I have chosen two advertisement from two different countries which is China and United States. This two countries have different culture background and history. So I found two Huawei smart phone advertising to find the difference of it.

The first advertisement is made in HongKong. It told a story between mom and son. It focus on the emotion of family. In Chinese culture family is beyond everything. So this ads show the son is being an adult, and the mom is getting older. It connect with the every consumer and bring the memory of mom. And when the son are off work he will go home eat. It is very Chinese. The child live with parents if they haven’t married.

The second video is really great. It is made at a western country. The element in this video is so western. The school, facebook like, the toys in the supermarket and memes.

Refection_What possibilities and risks does social media offer activists attempting to drive social change?

Reflection

Through this assignment, I first tried audio production and learned new editing software.

At the same time, the theme of this assignment is the impact of social media on Activism. Through research and investigation, I understand the meaning of Activism. It is a systematic way to understand human behavior, and assume that all behaviors are produced by the response of the environment, or by the life history of the individual. result. Before social media is available, people want to express their opinions or ideas. Generally, they can only pass some large-scale speeches or marches. The “convenient behavior circle” of social media often gives people a new way of expressing their own behavior and thinking. It simplifies people’s behavior, and only needs keyboard, video, etc. to express their behavior and thoughts anytime, anywhere. At the same time, this has further produced “Slacktivism”. Whether people are lying down, sitting, or squatting, as long as they have a mobile phone or a computer that can be connected to the Internet, they can freely express their own opinions. However, under the influence of fast food news, people rarely investigate the true and false of one thing, they can express their own ideas, and often have some keyboard man. The wave of public opinion they create can often engulf another person. At the same time, these waves are sometimes effective, come fast, and go fast, and have not left a deep impact on the incident. Often thousands of messages can be rotated in a day.

Through this study, I think people need to make reasonable use of social media, not to be overly addicted. Moreover, the speeches published in social networks are also legal. Don’t rely on the fake face given by the Internet.

In my podcast I introduced the social media and the importance for today’s world. Social media is a tool and platform for people to share their opinions, experiences with each other. It does bring us lots of convivence of communication, but it is also having some risk about the activisms. I used the scholarly recourse of Earl and Kimport’s book ‘Activism or slacktivism? The potential and pitfalls of social media in contemporary student activism.’ It introduced the slacktivism. And I talked about the disadvantage of it. I used the ice bucket challenge, earth hour, candle-forwarding and other well-known events to be the example.

Artificial Intelligence

Reflection

This assignment is a big challenge for me because I haven’t done this long video. The topic I have chosen is Artificial intelligence. I like watching films in my free time, especially the science fiction film. I think Ai is not just about the film now. Over the past 50 years, this technology made great progress and the artificial narrow intelligence is already part of our life. Things like car navigation, getting recommendations from the Netflix, ask Siri about the weather are all about artificial intelligence.

It is getting more and more realistic because of the progress of technologies. So I want to talk about is by the structure. Firstly I used a history of ai to show the reason why we develop ai. And I cut to the opening. Which has lots of elements about the topic I will talk and the method I will use? When I intruding my self to the audience I used a Siri voice to say: I am Siri, here to help. I think it is interesting because it can give the audience an idea about what will I talk about.

After I introduced myself I used a few examples to talk about the different ai in movies which is Wall E. And I used myself to be the example. I talked about the movie I watched when I was a boy and what is ai for me at that time. I think the story is better than the information and it can attract the audience. Maybe the audience has seen this movie then they will feel the same thing I feel. I like the villain in the wall E, It showed a possibility of Ai.

The next step is to define Ai. I researched online and I found John McCarthy coined the Artificial intelligence, which was defined by 1955. I think it is amazing. At that time the technologies are not like today. The studies are very hard. After I explained the definition, I used the theory to subdivided into three major types

  1.  1.Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI)
  2.  2.Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)
  3.  3.Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI)

The introduction of the three types. I add the picture I found on Flickr and the screenshot on my phone. I used lots of screenshot in my video because I want to simulate the daily use. When we are using Ai we may not notice. I want to tell people They are using Ai already. Don’t be afraid of Ai. It is just on the narrow intelligence. We can use it well.

I explained we are using Ai now and it is already part of our life. And I said something I see on the Reddit. It is a great website I never used it before.

I found ABC news which gives me lots of ideas to make this video. It also said some disadvantages about Ai and I used them in my video. For conclusion, I left a question to the audience. Because I saw lots of YouTubers are doing this. It does make the audience think. It is great.

I think this assignment has made a lot of progress for me. I’ve been doing a seven-minute video, which has practiced my editing skills and speed. I’m not just recording my speech with a camera, I can also make the video more interesting with clips. There is a lot to talk about artificial intelligence. During this assignment, I have learned how to quickly find the materials and contents I want, learned a lot of knowledge about artificial intelligence and had opinions on this matter. In fact, during this time, I think the most important thing to do video is the early stage plan and the later stage execution. The early-stage plan can make the video not disorderly, but also can be organized. As for editing software, this course enabled me to learn final cut by myself. Moreover, I hope to try other editing software in the future and improve my skills through continuous learning. This course also taught me to use creative common to find images. Although it was a bit difficult at first, because many good images were protected by copyright, I could not use them. But then I also found a lot of photos available by searching.

I like this unit, it makes me feel I am improving my skill. When I do the first assignment, I feel nervous to talk to the camera. Now I feel much confident. When I shot my first video I used two days to get all the A-roll. But This time I only used one day to shot the a-roll.

I want to be a director in the future, so the process of editing and designing is a very important learning experience for me. This is the first step on the ideal front, which is the introductory course. Learning Bunsen is a process of continuous improvement, a battle without end, and a battle between yourself and yourself. I believe that the flexible use of this basic knowledge will help me in the future.

Assifgnment 2 Surveillance

Refection

The topic I choose for this video is Surveillance. I want talk about it is because I think it is getting important in the future. I have learned so many things by doing this video. The message I want to send to the audiences is the surveillance have both positive and negative effects we have to know. I researched few articles to looking for information. The plan I made is basically tomato a intro and body and a conclusion. I used a time-lapse at the start. Because I want to show the audiences the surveillance camera nearby. The time-lapse can show the movement and the cameras. With the music I choose. The music I choose is I typed cyberpunk in the Soundcloud and I listened lots of music. Finally I choose this one because I like the rhythm of this music. It can match the time-lapse video.

The picture I choose is all from the Flickr and the photo I took by myself. There are lots of good picture on the Flickr but I can’t use because it is right reserved. I learned to use the picture and music with licensed. Because not every picture and music is Ok to use. The picture I choose is most about the surveillance camera. It can relate to the topic and the word I said.  I also learned use Final cut pro to editing video this time but I need more practice.

Assessment Task 2

In today’s word, social media is very popular and widely spread. Social media has become an important tool for people to socialize. As a platform to build social relations, it affects people’s self-consciousness and identity. On the one hand, we use social media for different reasons; On the other hand, the use of social media is also a process of gradually constructing our own identity. In the use of social media represented by Facebook and Twitter, we build our identities on different levels in different ways. The methods and technologies of digital identity exploration and online media have permeated our daily lives and how they shape and influence who we are, online and offline (Cover R 2015). Every user of social media is trying to build an online identity. The online identity is about to create an identity online. It can be used on business, school, different community of just for the friend and family. There also have many different social media websites, and these websites all have different functions.

And in these years the online identity is getting more and more important because it provides platforms for people to express their feelings and show different sides of their personalities. It helps people to understand you more holistically and it helps to shape people’s interpersonal perception. People often associate your virtual identities with real-life identities. Also, the employers will use online platforms to verify and validate the identity of individuals.

The construction of a digital identity begins with setting up a profile: on social networking sites, people can expand their identity by choosing pictures and avatars, just as they can choose contacts, friends or follow on Twitter. Tell me who you’re interested in and who you’re a fan of, and I’ll tell you who you are. A person’s reputation comes from his performance on the Internet, and the tone and taste of his comments and comments often determine how others perceive us. Take Twitter as an example. It can be both personal and professional. It can be an effective tool for you to engage in issues and conversations that you care about. You can choose the photo to make people recognize you or write a bio to introduce yourself and talk about the interests of your job or put your website below the bio. Make the others know you. Take my twitter profile to be the example.

Screenshot by Jixian Zhu 26/08/2019

This is my twitter profile. I used my really name to be the username and there is some simple introduction in the bio. The profile also includes my location and my date of birth. Also, I put my about.me page in the profile. So, the people who read this profile can link to my about.me page. The about.me page is about myself and it is linked to my twitter, WordPress and Instagram account.

Example of tweet

The person you followed and the tweet you post is all part of your online identity. Take this tweet to be example. The #ALM101DC shows the unit I study and which college I am in. Also you can share opinions or the interest things in your life on the social media.

Example of tweet

This tweet is about the photo I took. After I tweet this photo. The others can know that I like taking pictures. So that means every tweet you post online is gonna become to part of your online identity.

Many people remember that in the early days of the Internet, it was mainly used to communicate anonymously with strangers. In cyberspace, on the one hand, people can meet people from different regions, different classes and even different countries. On the other hand, people can take on a completely different role from their real identities and shape, disguise and change their identities at will. In this way, the Internet brings a new experience of communication and establishes a utopian space far away from the real world. It is for this reason that anonymity is popular among early Internet users, many of whom linger on the anonymity of the Internet and are keen to make friends with strangers they would never meet in the real world.

With the increasing integration of the Internet into People’s Daily life, especially with the emergence of social media, such utopian online communication gradually loses its freshness. There is a growing sense that in the anonymity of the Internet, people come and go too quickly to form strong and lasting connections. Therefore, after the novelty of anonymous communication, real-name communication has become more and more the mainstream of network applications. Many people take the initiative to remove the disguise and protection of anonymity, expose their real identity in cyberspace, and communicate with those who have real connections.

Week6 Group blog post

  1. How have dominant conceptualisations of gender, sexuality, and/or so-called ‘race’ influenced identity construction in online spaces? Have users at times subverted traditional expectations and in what ways?

“….the dynamics of continuity and change in Chinese values. Holmes, Balnaves, and Yini (2015) argued that WeChat tends to reinforce traditional Chinese collectivist values while incorporating a Western democratic element in communication style.” This means the social media constructed the people’s new values of identity and social life.

“…WeChat appeared to have created an implicit new type of digital divide based on the alumni financial and educational ethos.”In addition, the social media created the new education systems compared with the past ideologies of education. For example, exchange the overseas students to study and understand other cultures and values. Also, I assume new educational ethos will change people’s stereotypes of race and culture. It will encourage to subvert the ways of traditional thoughts.

(Zhang, M 2016, ‘A rhetorical analysis of Chinese WeChat messages among midlife adults’, China Media Research, vol. 12, no. 3,p6)

The online social media is most focus on teenagers and young people. Midlife women need care about their age

2. What ‘digital divides’ are you aware of existing within Australia and beyond? Is this just a matter of access to technology or are there other forms? How might exposure to digital divides impact on one’s online identity?

According to the article, WeChat groups have good social connection to update about social and political news. In addition, social media allows them to get specific locations where individuals lived. Also, digital divides impact on identity construction and gives positive influence on people’s sense of well-being. The new media technologies change the relationship between the speaker and audience. (scope of rhetoric expanded by texts, visual images, online discussion and etc). However, at the same time the new media technologies reduce people’s time on other social life.“WeChat offers an array of topics such as news, finance, humor, health, nutrition, education, shopping, and fashion. Individuals and organizations can register for public accounts and have followers of their posts. Beyond domestic use, over 30 foreign embassies in China have opened WeChat accounts to facilitate international exchanges (Hou, 2014).”

(Zhang, M 2016, ‘A rhetorical analysis of Chinese WeChat messages among midlife adults’, China Media Research, vol. 12, no. 3,p7)

3. In what ways have socially and politically marginalised individuals and groups pushed back against systemic power structures to create powerful online identities and communities? List as many examples as you can think of.

The study shows in China that has embraced traditional and western values in the global community, the effectiveness of political discourse and the potential for online propaganda is declining. Hadland (2015) In China, social media is a double-edged sword, providing the government with new opportunities to communicate with citizens, while also giving citizens access to other information and connecting with each other in an unprecedented way. (Masterson, 2015, p. 238). So the politically marginalised individuals and groups can build the identity online and on social media they can find people have the same opinions .

4. What considerations must be taken into account in relation to online dating and identity-building? How do dating sites impact on people’s self-presentation in their profiles? What role do algorithms play in the evaluation of user compatibility? What does this suggest about the relationship between identity and artificial intelligence?

I think people should be careful on what they post online, especially when online dating since the internet itself is a dangerous place much like the real world since we don’t know everything and everyone online. Based on the Chinese media research its been stated that “social media have a need for ‘different personas’.” (Mei Zhang, 6/8) This means that not everything that we see online is true, as some can be made up. Identity-building is a crucial part of building media presence as this is a way for us to be known not only for the people with a relation to us but also for the people online. However, I believe that people should not purely connect online dating profiles as a build identity, as mentioned people work and provide differently as they have a need to put on a different personas.

•Dating sites is for people to find a significant other, some provides every bit of information about them to show ‘this is me, this is who I am’ without concealing anything. While, some “reveal certain truths while simultaneously conceal others” (Mei Zhang, 6/8). Dating sites impact on people’s self-presentation in a way that they provide the audience self-promotion to mostly place themselves into desirable light to connect to people as much as possible.

• In dating sites users are matched together based on their self-presentation in their profile after being  “chosen” by the viewer. After this they can be messaged if they matched with each other, and will give permission to message….idk how to answer the last question.

Assignment 1 making video

The topic I made is a short self-introduction and the game console. The reason I choose to make game console is I like the video game and I hope to share the joy with the audients. I think Nintendo Switch is a successful game console because I think It brings people different ways to play games. With it, you can easily share the joy with people around you. Although it doesn’t have the super-powerful function like PS4 Pro or XBOX ONE X, it still can be a success whether on the Sales and reputation.

In this video, the main thing I want to introduce is the 3 different modes on Switch. At the start, I put a short zoom out on my Switch and PS4 with music to be the start. I think it can bring out an idea that what am I going to talk about. The second part is I showed up and do the self-introduction. In this part the angle I used is eye-level shot, it can make the connection between me and the audiences. And the background here is my apartment. When I introduced to the video game, I put a b-roll on it. It shows I am playing the video game. And after that, I introduced the top 3 game console company. I write the name on a white paper and show to audiences. After this part, I introduced Nintendo Switch. I also put a b-roll on it when I am talking. I used to pan left to right to show the game console. I think it is good to put the Nintendo Webpage in the video to give the audience’s ideas what Nintendo is, and I add a close shoot of the Super Mario game. After that, I talked about the 3 different on Nintendo Switch. I use three different B-roll to show the modes. For the audio in my video. I used a piece of music my friend made to be the start. It is short and is good for the beginning. The rest audio is recorded by my camera.

The biggest challenges for me is to talk to the camera. I don’t use to talk to the camera, it makes me feel very uncomfortable and nervous, but after 10-20 times try. I made it. The lesson I learned from is to act nature so the video won’t be boring. If you are too nervous it will show on your face. I think I still need lots of practice. Another thing is to shoot the B-roll. When I shoot the b-roll I always think the angle is good the light is good, but when I put that in the iMovie I find it is not good enough. So I tried lots of time on the b-roll. I tried to used different angles and different lighting. I think I need to buy a tripod and stabilizer for the next assignment. Because the hand shooting is not stable. And I will try to practice to talk to the camera.
